Opening Ceremony
The conference meeting began at 9:40AM with an opening prayer by Arc. Joseph Agyei Danquah of CSIR-BRRI.
Introducing the Chairman, Alhaji Yahaya H. Yakubu (Director of Housing, Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing, MWRW&H) said Arc. Osei Kwame Agyemang is a young practising Architect who had built his career and now assumed the leadership of the Ghana Institute of Architects.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman said he was happy that all stakeholders in the built environment had gathered to discuss the numerous challenges in the urban environment. He urged all to be circumspect of social considerations in proposing solutions and manage information disseminated during the workshop for the betterment of society.
On Monday, February 21, 2011, the CSIR-BRRI launched an updated version of the Seismic Code book authored by Dr. Kwamena Amonoo-Neizer, a Chief Research Scientist and former Acting Director of CSIR-BRRI, at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Accra.
The event, which was chaired by Prof. E.H. Amonoo-Neizer, CSIR Council Chairman, whose elder brother authored the book, attracted many engineers, contractors and consultants.
1.0 Arrival in Ghana; Sunday, 7th August, 2011
The four-man NBRRI delegation arrived in Accra on Sunday, 7th August, 2011 evening. They were picked up from the Accra International Airport and escorted to Noda Hotel, Kumasi, where they lodged for the period of the visit by Dr. N. K. Nsiah Achampong (Head, CID) and Mr. Amponsah, who drove the CSIR-BRRI Welfare Nissan Civilian Bus. The delegation, which was led by Prof. Danladi S. Matawal (D-G/CEO, NBRRI-Abuja), also included Engr. Y. S. Mohammed (Director, Technology Acquisition and Adaptation, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Abuja), Engr. George N. Omange (Director, Planning and IT, NBRRI-Abuja) and Engr. R. B. Lawal (Chief Research Officer, NBRRI-Ota) arrived in Kumasi around mid-night.
The Executive Director COMSATS called on Hon. Ing. Dr. Joe Oteng-Adjei, FGhIE, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI), Government of Ghana, in his office in Accra to discuss the on-going and future programmes of COMSATS with special reference to Ghana’s participation. The meeting held on May 3, 2013 was attended by Ing. Dr. Eugene Atiemo, Director of CSIR-Building and Road Research Institute (BRRI), Ghana, representing the Director-General CSIR; the outgoing Director of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Benony Komla Kortatsi and Mr. Isaac Kofi Yankson, Scientific Officer of CSIR-BRRI.
A 23-member delegation from Southern Sudan visited CSIR-BRRI on Thursday, March 31, 2011 to learn about the National Road Crash Data Gathering Processes, Coding, Analysis and Reporting. As a new Nation, the delegation was in the country to learn about best practices in road safety management.
