Chairman’s Vision: Visibility, Innovation, and Integrity
The Board Chairman, Prof. Michael Affam, delivered a compelling keynote address, challenging staff to elevate the Institute’s profile. His vision for the CSIR-BRRI centred on several key pillars:
- Enhancing Institutional Visibility
Prof. Affam urged the workforce to "come out of their hideouts," emphasising that the Institute’s research outputs and technical innovations must be proactively projected. He noted that visibility is the primary driver for attracting strategic partnerships and reinforcing the Institute’s role in nation-building.
- Modernising Work Cultures
The Chairman called for the adoption of "smarter" ways of working. By embracing innovation and streamlining internal systems, he noted that the Institute can significantly improve productivity and service delivery.
- Strengthening Internal Cohesion
A major highlight of the address was the emphasis on institutional hierarchy. Prof. Affam advised staff to utilise internal structures and established grievance procedures before escalating issues externally, fostering a culture of internal trust and professional communication.
- Staff Welfare and Ownership
Acknowledging that a motivated workforce is the backbone of any research institution, the Chairman reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to employee well-being. He encouraged staff to take "ownership" of the Institute, viewing its success as a collective responsibility rather than just a workplace obligation.
- Discipline and Ethical Conduct
The Board set a high bar for professional standards, highlighting punctuality and unwavering integrity as non-negotiable values. Prof. Affam reminded the gathering that transparency and time consciousness are critical to maintaining institutional credibility.
A United Front: Staff Associations Pledge Support
The meeting concluded with a resounding show of solidarity from the Institute’s various labour and professional bodies. Pledging their allegiance to the new leadership were:
- Research Staff Association
