FEE-PAYING NON-RESIDENTIAL SHORT COURSES

The National Artisan Training Centre of the CSIR-BRRI, Kumasi, announces the

under-listed fee-paying short courses from November 3-28, 2014  and invites

interested persons and organisations to register:

1.       Geomatic Surveying Technician Course using Total Station, GPS and GIS (Four Weeks)

 Course content:

Conventional Surveying Techniques using Total Station, GPS Survey;  GIS;  Computer-assisted drawing; Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction; etc.

     

            

Minimum Entry Requirements:                                                                                                                                                                i. Senior High/Technical /NVTI qualification                                                                                                                                                 ii. Practicing Survey Technicians with BECE/MSLC    qualification

 

2.       Geotechnician Training Course

                      Course content:

Module 1: Field Work (Two Weeks)                                                                                                                                              Drilling/Test Pit Excavation; In-Situ Soil Testing, Sample Collection, Sample Preparation and Site Selection. 

Module 2: Laboratory Works (Four Weeks)                                                                                                                                 Atterberg Limit Tests; Grading Tests; Digital Terrain Model (DTM) Data Capture and Processing; Resistivity Measurements of Rocks and Seismic Data Capture and Processing ; Triaxial Tests; Compaction Tests; California Bearing Ratio (CBR) Tests;  Consolidation Tests. Laboratory Report Preparation.        

                                                                                                                       

Minimum Entry Requirements:                                                                                                                                                    Senior High/Technical School qualification

Module 3: Laboratory Work  and Reporting  (Two Weeks)                                                                                                      Continuation of Consolidation Tests; Triaxial Shear Tests, including, Unconsolidated; undrained, Consolidated Undrained and Consolidated Drained; Data Preparation; Resistivity Data Processing; Seismic Data Processing; Report Writing; Group Reports Presentation.

Module 4: QA/QC for Earth Works

Field Density Testing; Double Ring Infiltration; Speedy Moisture Tests; HILF Test.

Minimum Entry Requirements:

i.                     Holders of Modules 1 & 2

3.  Construction Technology Training Course

 

Course content:

Basic Interpretation of Architectural and Structural Engineering Drawings (Including Masonry, Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, etc.); Setting Out; Concrete Technology; Column Foundation Footing; Materials Management; Record Keeping; Foundation Plan & General Arrangement (Steel Fixing);Specifications & Reinforcement(Steel Fixing); Basic Estimating; Work Programme; The Site Supervisor; Labour Only Sub-Contract; Anti-Termite Treatment Technology Transfer;  Project Management; Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction; Clay Pozzolana Application; M&E; etc.                                                                                                

Minimum Entry Requirements:

Works Supervisors/Clark of Works, Foremen, etc.

 

4. Brick and Compressed Earth Block (CEB) Laying

Basic Interpretation of Architectural and Structural Engineering Drawings; Anti-Termite Treatment Technology Transfer; Basic Project Management Skills;

Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction; Clay Pozzolana Application; Basic Hand Tools for Building Construction; Setting Out; Brick Work Dimensions; Erecting a Brick/CEB Wall; Using a Profile to Erect Corner and Maintain Alignment; Brick Wall Cutting to lean to Roof; Construction of Arches and Types; Methods of Reinforcements; Fire-Place Construction; Half-Brick Walls Stretcher Bond; Foundations and Footings; etc.                            

 

Minimum Entry Requirements:                                                                                                                                                    Practicing Masons with BECE/MSLC qualification.
