CSIR-BRRI completes the construction of incierators in the Upper East Region of Ghana

CSIR-BRRI in partnership with Water-Aid Ghana has completed the construction of incinerators in the Upper East Region of Ghana. Under this project, a total number of 14 incinerators were constructed for some selected health centers in the Bongo and the Kasena Nankana West Districts in the the Upper East region.

CSIR-BRRI acquires new Universal Testing Machine

The CSIR-BRRI has acquired a new state-of-the-art Universal Testing Machine. The UTM has a capacity of 1500N and used for the testing of concrete and iron rods. This equipment has been acquired to provide support for research activities.

It is also opened to the public especially consultants, contractors and all builders for the testing of concrete and iron rods. Other equipment acquired by the institute include electronic setting time machine (vicatronic), electric furnace having a capacity of 1300oC, and an electric oven.

Profile of Surv. Ernest Osei-Tutu, Best BRRI Research Scientist, 2011

Surveyor Ernest Osei-Tutu is the Head of the Construction Division and Project Management Section of the CSIR-Building and Road Research Institute. He was born on the 24th of March 1960 in Kumasi to the late Ernest Osei-Tutu of Maase, Kwabere District and Madam Agnes Boakye of Atwima Bedu all of Ashanti Region respectively. Surveyor Ernest Osei-Tutu attended Opoku Ware Secondary School (OWASS with a school number O16) in Kumasi for his GCE “O” Level from 1974 to 1979. He later on completed his GCE “A” Level in 1981 at the same school. In September 1981, he entered the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to read Bachelor of Science degree in Building Technology and successfully completed in 1986.

BRRI to intensify advocacy to accept bricks for houses

Kuntanase (Ash), GNA- The Building and Road Research Institute (BRRI) in conjunction with some district assemblies are to campaign for the use of bricks for construction of projects. The Institute would also sensitise people on market avenues for brick products in some communities throughout the country.

BRRI to produce more viable road construction materials

Fumesua (Ash), GNA - The Building and Road Research Institute (BRRI) will soon outdoor a more viable and cost-saving road construction material, which it developed from "Pozzolana" cement to strengthen marginal base materials (gravels). Pozzolana cement was developed by the BRRI using 100 per cent local raw materials.

BRRI wants focus on local building materials

Executive Director, Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) Visits Ghana

Arrival
The Executive Director of COMSATS, Dr. Imtinan Elahi Qureshi (T.I.), arrived at the Accra International Airport from Nigeria at 4:30PM on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 and was met by  Ing. Eugene Atiemo, Director and Mr. Kofi Yankson, Scientific Secretary, CSIR-BRRI. Dr. Qureshi’s luggage did not arrive with him but Ing. Atiemo followed it up and got it for him the following morning. He put up at the AirSide Hotel, Accra.

Involve BRRI in the national housing scheme

Kumasi, GNA - An appeal has been made to the government to consider involving the Building and Road Research Institute (BRRI) of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in its mass housing scheme for workers in the country.

Opening Ceremony
The conference meeting began at 9:40AM with an opening prayer by Arc. Joseph Agyei Danquah of CSIR-BRRI.
Introducing the Chairman, Alhaji Yahaya H. Yakubu (Director of Housing, Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing, MWRW&H) said Arc. Osei Kwame Agyemang is a young practising Architect who had built his career and now assumed the leadership of the Ghana Institute of Architects.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman said he was happy that all stakeholders in the built environment had gathered to discuss the numerous challenges in the urban environment. He urged all to be circumspect of social considerations in proposing solutions and manage information disseminated during the workshop for the betterment of society.
